The Japanese Spitz Club of NSW
Code of Ethics
As a member of the Japanese Spitz Club of NSW, I hereby declare that I will:
1. Abide by the Club constitution and by-laws and support the standard of the breed.
2. Keep only the number of dogs that I can properly care for.
3. Ensure that my dogs are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and receive proper veterinary attention, as and when required.
4. Not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large and when in public I will ensure they are under effective control at all times.
5. Promote and demonstrate good fellowship and sportsmanship amongst members and those participating in, or attending, shows, trials or other Japanese Spitz Club events.
6. Help educate the public in the Standard of the breed, inherent peculiarities of the breed, and in other areas where I am qualified.
7. Not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise or mislead any person regarding the parentage or performance of any dog.
8. Authorise the Club to publish names and details of any of my dogs found to be affected by an identifiable hereditary disease/defect.
9. Notify my Japanese Spitz’s breeder or the Japanese Spitz Club of NSW if, for any reason, I cannot keep my dog. I will not on-sell any Japanese Spitz to another without consent of my breeder or the Club.
10. Love and care for my dogs for all of their life, and accepting that dogs, like people, grow old and may need special care and attention
As a member of the club involved in breeding, I will:
11. Breed in such a manner as to enhance good temperament and continue to improve the physical health of the breed.
12. Breed only for the purpose of maintaining and/or improving the standard of the Japanese Spitz, not for the pet market or any other commercial purpose.
13. Comply with Items 4 and 4A of the Dogs NSW Code of Ethics, regarding the minimum age of bitches to be mated and the maximum number of times a bitch may whelp within an eighteen month period.
14. Comply with Item 5 of the Dogs NSW Code of Ethics, preventing any mating of my Japanese Spitz with a dog of a different breed, to a cross-bred dog, or to any unregistered dog of the same breed.
15. Comply with Item 15 of the Dogs NSW Code of Ethics – all puppies in all litters must be registered with Dogs NSW (or the relevant State or Territory canine council).
16. Not knowingly breed from, or sell as suitable for breeding, any Japanese Spitz that has known genetic defects of a nature that are detrimental to the health of the breed.
17. Sell Japanese Spitz, which are to my knowledge, in good health and free of communicable diseases or with full disclosure of their current health status.
18. Approve of all persons acquiring dogs from me and ensure that they clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the Japanese Spitz breed and that they have the time and adequate facilities to properly care for their dogs.
19. Provide to all purchasers of dogs or dogs placed by me, written details of all health issues, dietary, worming and vaccination requirements as well as ANKC pedigree registration and microchip details.
20. Continue to offer assistance to the buyer for as long as such aid is required.
21. Not sell or donate Japanese Spitz to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly allow them to be given as prizes in contests of a kind, or for any purpose that may lead to their exploitation.
22. Put forward litters of puppies to be advertised on the Club’s website only where the following requirements have been met:
a. One (or both) of the parents shall hold, at least, the title of Champion with the ANKC or equivalent overseas canine controlling body. Where the parents hold titles in disciplines other than conformation (such as agility, obedience, rally-obedience, tracking or dances with dogs), advertising of these litters will be at the discretion of the Club’s Committee.
b. Provide copies of the Patella Luxation test scores on the Club’s required form, as conducted by a qualified veterinary surgeon.
